Allcocks 4 SPOKE COXON 4104-T2 (1905) Unbelievable Condition, Near Mint

Not in stock

Allcocks COXON 4 Spoke, 3 ½'', 4104-T2 1905 Incredible EXCELLENT/Nr. MINT condition. ULTRA SCARCE, possibly unique transitional model WITH tension regulator; this innovation was invented by J. W. Young in 1905 (patent no. 3328) and was that year introduced as an option when the 4 spoke 4104 was discontinued and replaced with the six spoke 4108 (without tension regulator) 4108A (with regulator) It is therefore generally accepted that four spoke Coxons were never fitted with a regulator, however it is entirely feasible that in 1905 a few four spoke 4104's were fitted with one - or possibly just this reel. In any event, it's a beauty.

Nicely figured walnut back in faultless condition, brass check button operating a copper caliper check, clean undamaged brass Starback and full unaltered brass foot. Ebonite front and back flanges, unmarked, with four brass spokes to each, the back spokes at 45 degree angles to the front, one accommodating a quick spool release catch, one a tension regulator. Almost zero play on the spindle, allied to overall excellent condition are indicative of only very light use. Spins beautifully. Possibly unique and altogether a lovely and very scarce reel that is in equal measure, desirable, collectible and very practical to use.
