Albert Smith & Co 'PENGUIN', SCARCE 4'' centre pin designed for Roach and Dace. This model was offered in four grades, this example being the top grade 'with Line Guard and Removeable Check' .
In excellent condition, this rare, solid core reel has a mahogany front flange and spool with black domed shape handles on attractice oval brass escutcheons, an aluminium rear flange fixed to the wood by brass screws. The aluminium backplate bears the maker's engraved details including the 'Penguin' model name, a brass pin, foot and check button operating a brass caliper check and brass line guard with free running 'eye'. Both the line guard and check caliper are fixed with copper rivets. A tip top example of a scarce model without any visible damage or blemishes and attractively priced £98 *supplied with a copy of the reels details from the makers 1937/8 catalogue
