PETE READING BARBEL REEL. MINT UNUSED 4 ½'', med.wide (7/8'' between plates) LIMITED EDITION, production long since sold out. Designed by retired science teacher Pete Reading who is the current holder of the Hampshire Avon Barbel record.

Made by Hans Juhkental and bearing aesthetic similarities to the Swallow reels, this is a high quality, handmade, artisan-produced, solid core drum centre pin featuring a useful centre drag simply operated by a quarter turn on the brass central reel hub on the front flange. Fashioned from aerospace aluminium with hard, anodised bronze finish, generously perforated front flange, black waisted handles on brass stems and discreet circular brass seats. Fitted with two high quality ball bearings giving a super smooth spinning action, brass rim check lever and mechanism operating a tungsten 'V'spring check. Backplate engraved with the model, maker and reel number and featuring a knurled nicely milled centre-retaining brass nut. Highly prized among the Barbel cognoscenti, a strong, robust design ideally suited to all the larger species. Perfect for trotting (exceptional spinner) but equally useful for legering as it has a strong check and drag.
