ROACH POLE by C.A. Evans. 5 Piece, 17'6'', tonkin cane butt, carolina white cane 2nd, 3rd, 4th joints with spliced greenheart tip, brass lined ferrules (always indicative of a quality pole). Brass butt cap engraved 'C.A. EVANS, GREEN ST. BETHNAL GREEN'. This engraving indicates an earlier example as later Evans poles were engraved 'C.A.EVANS and SON' Maker is Charles Alexander Evans 1849-1937. This pole was made in the 19th century, before the change to, 'and SON'.
Unused since beautifully restored by PAUL COOK replicating the original silk whippings. All the original fittings were retained and are present. Pole expert, Michael Nadell in his seminal book 'Poles Apart' had this to say about Evans poles; 'I consider his poles every bit as good as Sowerbutts', although his production was never as large' . Very SCARCE and probably unique in this condition.
